Treeline holds names, job titles, reporting lines and photographs — personal data about people who never chose us. We treat looking after that as the job itself, not as a page in the small print.

How your people's data is held

Specific commitments, not badges.

Everything below is something your IT lead or data protection officer can hold us to in writing, before you upload anything.

Where it lives: United Kingdom; Hosted in the UK, with an encrypted offsite backup held in the EU. No transfer beyond the UK or EEA without your written instruction, and our sub-processor list is published and versioned.
Encryption: Database and backups; The database and our encrypted offsite backups are encrypted at rest. Traffic between the application and the database runs on a private network within our hosting provider and does not traverse the public internet.
Your role and ours: You are the controller; Treeline is your processor. We act on your instructions, and our data processing agreement sets that out in the standard form your legal team will expect.
Recovery: Daily backups, restores exercised; Backed up daily and kept at least 30 days, with weekly copies held 12 weeks and monthly copies 12 months. We restore production into development regularly, so the backups are known to work rather than assumed to.
Who can see what: Scoped, and recorded; On the plans that include it, access is set per company or division. From the Starter plan up, every change is recorded with the person, the time and the source, and nothing in the product can alter that record.
Leaving: A supported operation; Export everything in an open format whenever you like, on any plan including the free one. It is what you uploaded plus what you built on it, with no proprietary file. Deletion on termination is set out in your agreement.

We are new. Here is what protects you anyway.

Treeline is a young product, and you should price that in rather than take our word for it. Longevity is not something we can claim yet, so the protections are structural instead of promised.

If Treeline stopped tomorrow you would leave with your structure intact and be able to load it somewhere else. That is a lower bar than "trust us", and it is the one worth checking.

Why it exists

You deal with the people who wrote it

Support is not a separate department reading from a script. If your structure does not fit, the person who answers can change the software — and often has.

We will say so if Treeline is the wrong fit

If what you actually need is an HR platform or a payroll system, we will tell you before you buy rather than after. We would rather have a short conversation than a subscription nobody uses.

Never per seat, and that is not a launch offer

Charging by headcount means the better you do, the more it costs to know who works for you. It is the one part of the model we will not revisit.

The chart is only as good as the trust in it

A directory people suspect is out of date gets ignored, and an ignored directory is worse than none. Everything about the product — the dry run, the audit trail, the printable view — exists to keep it believable.
